Ingredients and allergies
Know what is in it.
Every dish lists its ingredients and its allergens, for every size and option. Tell us about a severe allergy before you order.
What every card shows
- The ingredients, by name, without amounts. Our recipes are ours; what goes into them is yours to know.
- The allergens, for each size and option: what the dish contains, then what it may contain.
- What an add-on or a choice adds, beside it, and the gluten-free option with its own allergen line.
- Icons with their words beside them, and the heat in words and chillies.
How the allergens are written
Always two parts, in this order, each only when it has something to say: "Contains: Wheat, Milk, Egg." then "May contain: Sesame."
The allergens are named in plain words, always in this order: Wheat, Barley, Oats, Rye, Milk, Egg, Fish, Crustaceans, Molluscs, Peanuts, Tree nuts, Sesame, Soy, Mustard and Sulphites. Wheat, barley, oats and rye are named as the grain. Tree nuts always name the nut, for example "Tree nuts (pistachio)".
"May contain" lists what may be present though it is not an ingredient: from our shared kitchen, or from a bought product whose packet says it may be present, or whose packet we have not been able to read. It is never left off to make a dish look cleaner.
A dish that contains no priority allergen shows no Contains line; its May contain line, when it has one, and the kitchen line below still apply.
The kitchen line names every allergen our food contains, then every allergen a dish may contain though none of our food contains it.
Our kitchen handles Wheat, Barley, Oats, Milk, Egg, Fish, Tree nuts (pistachio), Soy, Mustard and Sulphites. Some dishes may also contain Peanuts and Tree nuts (almond, cashew, hazelnut, walnut, Brazil nut, macadamia, pecan, pine nut): each dish's card says which. We cannot promise any dish is free of them.
Gluten-free options
Some dishes have a gluten-free option, marked on the card. Its line says how it is made and what it costs, and it carries its own allergen line.
Every gluten-free option is made in a kitchen that handles wheat, so it is not suitable for people with celiac disease. A standard dish is never called gluten-free.
The icons and the heat
Every icon has its words beside it, on the card and here. The heat line says how hot a dish is and where the heat comes from; a dish with no heat line has none.
What the icons mean
- House signature
- One of the dishes Sear & Shred is built on.
- Family table
- A dish from the owner's family table.
- Vegetarian
- No meat or fish in the dish as listed. An add-on can change that, so read its label.
- Gluten-free option
- A gluten-free option of this dish can be ordered. Read its line on the card before you order.
- Contains nuts
- At least one size or option of this dish contains peanuts or tree nuts.
- Spicy
- This dish carries heat. The card says how much, in words and in chillies.
- Heat
- Mild: a gentle warmth; Medium heat; Hot. A dish with no heat line has none.
Before you order
The allergen lines tell you what is in a dish; they cannot tell you whether it suits your allergy. Email searandshred@gmail.com before you order, tell us exactly what it is, and we tell you straight what we can do.
